When someone from a close circle is suffering from cancer and the future seems very collapsed, hope, faith, and love are the strongest roots that hold them together. These words may sound simple; they are lifelines. Hope wakes us out of bed each morning, even when we’re undergoing pain. Faith gives us the fortitude to believe in miracles or in the peaceful grace of acceptance. Love surrounds the patient like a warm blanket, even when words fail.
Families feel quite powerless when they see someone they love go through something they can’t even imagine. You want to battle their agony, switch places with them, and stop time. But a lot of the time, all you can do is sit close, hold their hand, and murmur silent prayers for them to not suffer, to feel peace, and to be softly carried through each moment.
During tough times, love is the purest form of gift—a peaceful vigil, a gentle care, and a shared cry. May everyone who is battling with this terrible disease experience the love of those around them and be wrapped in comfort, respect, and tranquility.
