Critical Care Unit AT CYTECARE

The Critical Care Unit at Cytecare Hospitals are focused on caring for patients who have potentially recoverable conditions, who can benet from more detailed observation (with or without invasive treatment) than can be provided safely in an ordinary ward.

The Critical Care Unit (CCU) at Cytecare provides a full spectrum of monitoring and life support technologies for the care of critically ill patients, and is usually reserved for patients with threatened or established organ failure, often arising as a result of or a complication from an acute illness or trauma, or as a predictable phase in a treatment plan. Patients are usually admitted to intensive care because of the severity of their illness, rather than solely on the underlying diagnosis.

The unit is supported by appropriately trained healthcare personnel. The CCU is staffed 24 hours a day by highly trained intensive care specialists and seasoned critical care nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, who are committed to providing quality clinical care. Our Critical Care Units (CCU), located on the 2nd Floor, are specialized facilities dedicated to patients who require intensive management, nursing care and complex respiratory support, and are located in close proximity to the Operating Rooms.

The CCU facility leverages technologically skilled staff and state-of-the-art equipment to ensure patient safety and to provide the best opportunity for recovery from serious illnesses. Patients’ vital signs are transmitted to a central station manned around the clock by our doctors and nurses, so that the CCU team is able to respond to dynamically changing situations in time. The care and concern by our staff help support not only the patients, but also the patients’ families during a very trying time.

Why Chose CCU at Cytecare?

The CCU facility at Cytecare is a Level 3 CCU, which involves a full spectrum of CCU management and support including invasive mechanical ventilation, invasive hemodynamic monitoring and support. 24/7 dedicated cover by resident intensivists, and the ability to support common organ system failures – in particular, ventilatory, circulatory and renal failure.

Basic respiratory monitoring and support

  • The need for more than 40% oxygen via a xed performance mask.
  • The possibility of progressive deterioration to the point of needing advanced respiratory support.
  • The need for physiotherapy to clear secretions at least two-hourly, whether via a tracheostomy or mini-tracheostomy or in the absence of an articial airway.
  • Patients recently extubated after a prolonged period of intubation and mechanical ventilation.
  • The need for mask CPAP or non-invasive ventilation.

Advanced Respiratory Support

  • Invasive mechanical ventilatory support i.e. endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation.
  • Non-Invasive ventilatory support using CPAP and BiPAP.
  • High Flow Nasal Canula (HFNC).
  • Long term ventilatory support and liberation from ventilators using tracheal ventilation and non-invasive ventilation.

Circulatory Support

  • The need for vasoactive drugs to support arterial pressure or cardiac output.
  • Close monitoring of circulatory support using arterial lines and central venous lines.
  • Support for circulatory instability owing to hypovolemia from any cause and which is unresponsive to modest volume replacement.
  • Patients resuscitated following cardiac arrest where intensive care is considered clinically appropriate.

Renal Support

  • The need for acute renal replacement therapy (HD or SLED).

We have separate Medical CCU and Surgical CCU

  • Medical CCU is equipped with 9 fully equipped CCU beds and 1 Isolation room, which has controlled airflow.
  • Surgical CCU is equipped with 10 fully equipped CCU beds and 1 Isolation room, which has controlled air flow.

Along with 24*7 onsite monitoring of critical patients by our clinical team, Cytecare is also associated with Cloudphysician for providing smart CCU solutions. This enables round the clock management of our critically ill patients through remote surveillance and extended support to our in-house team of intensivists.
